Weekly Bulletin 26th April 2024
Headteacher’s Message
During the school closure next Thursday for election day, learning will be set for pupils via DB primary, with resources given out to children in class the day before. I am aware that families’ circumstances are hugely varied and many will be juggling childcare with work responsibilities. We would ask that you do what you are able with your children, but do not worry if you are unable to complete all of the tasks. The tasks for the day will be available to access on Wednesday night and teachers will be able to answer any queries online during the day. The school closure is not ideal and we continue to press DCC to find alternative venues for polling.
Each week I want to include a ‘snapshot’ of some of the things going on in school. For example, news from our ECO team, Worship group, V.I.P. (Very International People) and SNAG (School Nutrition Action Group). This week our focus is on PE and an update is shared below.
Best wishes,
Mr Rumbles
PE
This half term in PE we have lots of exciting opportunities planned for the children inside and outside of the classroom. In school, the children in Reception will be receiving lessons from a specialist PE Teacher looking at ways of developing their Physical Literacy. This half term Reception class and Year 6 will be receiving coaching in their Games lessons. Year 3 and Year 5 children are participating in a 10-week Health and fitness programme.
We will also be running a Street Dance Festival for Years 1,3,5 and 6 as well as a Street Games Festival for the whole school. Key Stage Two children will also have the opportunity to take part in Durham Dash organised through our School Sports Partnership. There will be a Quidditch Day for Year 5 and 6 and a Handball Day for KS2. There will also be in-school competition opportunities for KS2 and a summer fun run for the whole school.
Next half term we will be offering some Yoga sessions and there will also be Netball coaching for Year 5 and 6 children to prepare them for competing in Netball league matches.
Outside of the classroom we are offering a wide range of extra-curricular clubs as well as the opportunity for some of the children to take part in football and Quadkids competitions.
Finally, we will be having a whole-school Health and well-being day with an assembly and class activities and this year our School Sports Day will take place on Monday 1st July with a back-up date of the 9th July in case of inclement weather.
Mr. Gowan

Christian Values
We are exploring the value of thankfulness and worship will be led by Mr Rumbles, Mrs Matthews, Fr. Bill, Fr. Peter and the pupils.
Some further information about this half term’s value:
This half term we are focussing on Thankfulness as our whole school Christian Value. We will be looking at why being thankful is important and discussing what the children are thankful for in their lives.
Some things to think about:
- How can we express our appreciation and thankfulness in the life of the school?
- How can we demonstrate that we see the good things of life as a blessing and a gift rather than a right?
- How can we be thankful for more than just material possessions?
