Shincliffe CE Primary School is proud of being an ‘International’ school and celebrates many different cultures through our globally enriched curriculum.
Shincliffe CE Primary School is proud of its strong focus on internationalism and language learning across the school. As part of our globally enriched curriculum, French is taught to all pupils and we enjoy a variety of cultural and language-based activities throughout the year, including celebrating festivals such as Diwali, Lunar New Year, Harvest and Christmas.
Through our links with Teikyo University, we welcome a Japanese student into school each week for six weeks every term. Their visit provides a valuable opportunity for our pupils to learn more about Japanese culture and language. This collaboration concludes with a special morning featuring a carousel of activities designed to celebrate and explore Japanese traditions, crafts and customs.
In celebration of the European Day of Languages, the pupils take part in a range of activities to promote global awareness and celebrate the joy of learning languages. Our Year 6 pupils spend an exciting morning at Durham High School, where they take part in a range of language-based workshops to develop their skills and confidence. The highlight of the day is a visit to a French market, where the pupils enjoy practising their French while sampling some authentic treats!
Looking ahead, we are thrilled to be preparing for our trip to France in July. During the visit, pupils will explore some key monuments in Paris and have the chance to put their language learning into practice in real-life situations.
These learning experiences reflect our continued commitment to promoting international awareness, developing our pupils’ confidence and fostering a love of languages throughout the school community.
