SEND Information Report
Our SEND Information Report – which is part of Durham County Council’s Local Offer – provides details about how we support children and young people with Special Educational Needs in our school.
Our SEND Information Report will provide details about how we implement our policy and practice to deliver high quality SEND provision for children and young people with SEND.
The SEND Information Report was reviewed and updated in October 2025.
At Shincliffe Primary School we recognise that all pupils are entitled to a quality of provision that will enable them to achieve their potential. We believe that every member of the school community is valued as a child of God, made in his image and likeness. All are welcome and are encouraged to use their gifts and talents to contribute to the happy and caring environment we strive to create. We seek to develop the highest levels of academic achievement and personal well-being within a loving Christian context. We aim to provide a stimulating learning atmosphere in which the potential of all can be realised. We recognise and cherish our role within the wider community and seek to build strong links between home, school and local community. Our vision is rooted in Jesus’ promise that he has ‘come in order that you might have life – life in all its fullness.’
We believe in positive intervention, removing barriers to learning, raising expectations and levels of achievement and working in partnership with other agencies in order to provide a positive educational experience for all our pupils including those with special educational needs or disability. All children with SEND and vulnerable groups are valued, respected and equal members of the school.
At Shincliffe CE Primary School we have a Designated Teacher for Looked After Children, who works closely with the SENCO to ensure all teachers in school understand the implications for those children who are looked after and have SEND. We have a designated SEND Governor who works closely with the SENCO to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of SEND provision at Shincliffe CE Primary School.
This SEND Information Report should be read alongside the school’s SEND Policy, the Equalities Information and Objectives and the Accessibility Plan.

Consultation with Children and Young People with SEND
Class teachers/SENCO and Support Staff will work with children and young people to identify the support needed to meet agreed outcomes. The provision is planned and interventions are allocated to individual needs.
We consult with pupils about the teaching strategies and support they have received and listen to their views as part of the review cycle.
Consultation with parents and carers of children and young people with SEND
We are committed to working with parents and carers to identify their child’s needs and support. Parents and carers will be involved throughout the process.
This includes:
- Termly parents/carers evenings;
- Ongoing discussions with a class teacher and/or SENCO;
- An ‘open-door’ policy, where parents and carers are welcome to come into school to discuss any concerns they may have;
- Through termly reviews of their child’s SEN Support Plan/ EHC Plan.
- Annual parent survey, with specific regard to SEND and provision in school
