Weekly Bulletin 18th July 2025

Headteacher’s Message

On Tuesday afternoon Year 6 presented their Leavers’ Assembly – looking back with both humour and affection on their time at Shincliffe. Their performance was enjoyed by the whole school and a capacity audience of friends and family.

Earlier in the week we received notification that the school has achieved the Platinum School Games Mark Award. This celebrates and recognises our hard work and commitment to PE and school sport. My thanks go to Mr Gowan and the School Sports Partnership in helping us achieve the highest level of this award.

This morning our Leavers’ Service was held at St. Mary’s and the leavers were each presented with a Bible as a fitting gift to mark their time with us. Education should be one of the greatest blessings in anyone’s life and an opportunity to experience ’life in all its fullness.’ We wish our Year Sixes well as they move on to the next stage of their schooling.

I would also like to take this opportunity to express my deep appreciation to the staff for the dedication and enthusiasm shown through the course of this academic year and for the way in which they have consistently endeavoured to provide the very best for the children. They are a credit to the profession; their commitment to your children and to giving them the best educational experiences is second to none.

My thanks also go to the FOSS team for all that they have done during this academic year. All money raised has been used for the benefit and enrichment of children in school.

I wish you all a happy, relaxing and fun summer break and look forward to welcoming you back to school on Wednesday 3rd September. I leave you with the words of the blessing shared by Year 6 at this morning’s Leavers’ Service:

Headteacher’s Message

Many thanks to all of you who attended our parents’ consultation evening appointments in order to meet with your child’s class teacher earlier this week. Regular contact between home and school is vital in ensuring that we are able to work in partnership to support the progress and development of your child. The staff look forward to working with you over the coming term and implementing the strategies and approaches discussed at parents’ evening.

This week, we have sent the ‘Poverty Proofing the School Day’ survey for parents and carers. Please do take the time to complete this and return it to school. Below is more information about this initiative, I thank you in anticipation for your support.

We have also completed our work with the ‘Eat Smart’ team in order to reduce food waste in school. Our School Council Waste Warriors have collected and weighed the food waste and as a school we have been able to reduce our school plate waste by 25%. Many children have tried new foods and been more aware of the importance of not wasting food. The School Council have a number of actions to help continue the good work and my thanks go to them, Mrs Claydon and the ‘Eat Smart’ team for all their endeavours.

Each week I want to include a ‘snapshot’ of some of the things going on in school. For example, news from our ECO team, Worship group, V.I.P. (Very International People) and SNAG (School Nutrition Action Group). This week our focus is on the work of our V.I.P. (Very International People) and some important visitors we’ve had in school and they have shared an update below.

Best wishes

Mr Rumbles

Headteacher’s Message

It has been another busy week in school. A particular highlight was our World Book Day Celebrations where we were able to share stories and celebrate reading for pleasure as well as have some tasty hot chocolate. A number of Year 5 and 6 pupils competed in the Durham Football League on Tuesday. The children were a credit to the school and clearly demonstrated their excellent listening and teamwork skills. Work has also begun in Y3 and Y4 who are preparing for their Easter Assembly. All of these opportunities help to enrich and extend the personal development of our children and put their skills into action.

Also this week, we welcomed Councillor David Stoker to school and showed him the outdoor developments that we have made using the Neighbourhood Funding that he helped us access. We are extremely grateful for his work with us, as the funds have proved vital in updating our Secret Garden, buying equipment for outdoor play and paying for our Arctic Cabin. In addition to this, he has also helped us secure funding to develop the area we use for pick-up and drop-off, which we will work on in the coming months.
